episode #225 – The Power Out

First off, thank to all our generous donors for contributing to community radio in Hamilton–you rule! It’s never too late to help, and the donate button lives forever in the sidebar—–>

Lots of new Canadiana this week, including recently released tracks by Junior Boys, Jill Barber, Timber Timbre, Tim Hecker and Mother Mother. Also, the lead track from Swedish songstress Lykke Li‘s latest album, Wounded Rhymes; and in honour of SXSW, new material from Austin’s …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead.

Best of all, to begin a new series of album features, we’ll be hearing the first few tracks off of Electrelane‘s awe-inspiring 2004 release,The Power Out. It’s still hard for us to believe these three songs all come from the same group, let alone come off the same album. And good news for fans: Electrelane announced last month that they’ll be reforming to hit the festival circuit this summer.

  1. Lykke Li – Youth Knows No Pain (Wounded Rhymes)
  2. Mother Mother – Far In Time (Eureka)
  3. …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead – Pure Radio Cosplay (Tao Of The Dead)
  4. Mogwai – Mexican Grand Prix (Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will)
  5. PJ Harvey – The Glorious Land (Let England Shake)
  6. Santogold – I’m A Lady (feat. Trouble Andrew) (Santogold)
  7. Jill Barber – Tell Me (Tell Me – Single)
  8. Junior Boys – ep (It’s All True)
  9. Tim Hecker – Analog Paralysis, 1978 (Ravedeath, 1972)
  10. Timber Timbre – Black Water (Creep On Creepin’ On)
  11. Electrelane – Gone Under Sea (The Power Out)
  12. Electrelane – On Parade (The Power Out)
  13. Electrelane – The Valleys (The Power Out)
