We hear the mercury’s still resting at the top of thermometer back home, so thought it might be appropriate to pass along links to a couple of tracks by artists who burn up their respective genres.
It’s no secret that here at mbtrg, we’re addicted to Sarah Harmer. This Burlingtonian is our hometown heroine, and her work to protect the Niagara Escarpment from aggregate development only deepens our love for this politically active folkie. She’s become so synonymous with the Canadian music scene that she was recent asked to write a song to celebrate Parks Canada‘s 100th anniversary.
There doesn’t seem to be a readily available version of ‘The Park Song’ that we can post here, but you can hear English and French versions via CBC Radio 2’s website. Thanks to Amy for passing this along!
Secondly, our favourite garage rock duo, Vancouver’s The Pack A.D. just released a new single off their upcoming Unpersons, due out in September. We fell in love with Becky Black and Maya Miller’s music the second we heard their sophomore album, Funeral Mixtape, and were particularly disappointed that the Polaris Prize jury didn’t recognize their great 2010 disc, We Kill Computers.
But that doesn’t mean you have to ignore them too. Take a listen to this blistering track, ‘Sirens,’ and thanks to Ben Rayner and the Sound Check Blog for posting it last week!
